Rockpick Legend Co. Mission Statement

We empower people to obtain genuine satisfaction with their rock related activities by providing expert information and quality products.

Rockpick Legend Co. started as Lewis Rock Shop in 1964. It was owned and operated by Mr. David Lewis, fondly called Old Man Lewis. Eventually he sold it to his son, who sold it to Rick and Anita Dalrymple. Rick started shopping at Lewis Rock Shop in 6th grade while completing a school assignment. Old Man Lewis took him (as well as many other children) under his wing, and turned him into a true blue mineral collector. Rick got so excited about minerals that he attended Montana College of Mineral Science & Technology and later the University of Utah as a geological engineering student.  Rick loved working as the Mineral Museum assistance curator while attending school in Butte.  When Rick had the chance to buy Lewis Rock Shop in 1995, he jumped at it. This was a dream come true.

Rick has become Salt Lake's leading mineral identification and appraisal expert.  He has been called on to identify and appraise mineral specimens for universities, insurance companies, and individuals interested in making tax deductible donations.

Over the years "Lewis Rock Shop" didn't seem like a fitting name since there was no longer an Old Man Lewis. We started to modernize, using computers, electronic scales, UPS shipping and more. Eventually the name Rockpick Legend Co. was chosen, because on a map the "rock pick" symbol in the legend means mine or TREASURE. (X marks the spot!) The name also conjures thoughts of stories and legends that old miners share to stir up the imagination toward treasure hunting. So Rockpick Legend Co. it became.

Rockpick Legend Co. is truly a family owned and operated business. Rick is in the store five to six days a week. Anita runs the store occasionally, and you may find some of the  children doing various jobs around the shop.

We hope to serve your rock related needs for many years to come!
